Earlier this year Eastland partnered with Melbourne stylist Chelsea Thomas (aka @IHeartBargains) to reward deserving local women with a unique styling experience and new wardrobe worth $1000. Ringwood mum-of-three Cathryn is the latest to be selected for the Eastland VIP treatment, and you can now watch her look transform from activewear to spring racing glamour below.
Cathryn’s husband Joel, who was one of more than 1000 thoughtful locals to nominate a loved one for the experience, said: “Cat does so much for our family and she usually has to shop in a rapid-fire fashion with the kids in tow, so I saw this as a rare opportunity for her to spend some time on herself and enjoy a special treat.” He added: “She’s a master bargain-hunter but would never dream of putting herself forward for something like this.”
Upon learning she had been chosen, Cathryn said: “I’d love to be a bit more sophisticated and fashionable, like Chelsea, but I’m not sure how to pull it off! My average day consists of kinder dropoffs, catching up on housework and hitting the park with the kids so my style at the moment is all about casual comfortable pieces from brands like Dotti and Cotton On.” She added that it was a delightful surprise to discover Joel had nominated her just in time for their wedding anniversary; “You think you’re in love when you first get married but he spoils me even more these days.”
After getting a sense of Cathryn’s lifestyle and style aspirations, Chelsea hit up her favourite womenswear stores at Eastland and unearthed some striking pieces for her from the likes of Decjuba, Sheike and Forever New. “Spring is all about having fun with your wardrobe, and although busy mums like Cathryn need to dress quickly and comfortably that doesn’t have to mean you’re
limited to activewear or the same old colours,” explained Chelsea.
As part of the style session, Chelsea helped Cathryn put together three looks complete with accessories and restyling tips for different occasions. Before re-joining Joel and the rest of the family wearing her final special occasion look, Cathryn also enjoyed trialing new cosmetics from Inglot, Napoleon Perdis and MAC.
After her big reveal moment, Cathryn commented: “It was great learning how Chelsea puts pieces together and getting new ideas about what suits me because I often doubt my fashion instincts. I reckon I’ll be more confident now when I go shopping and think more about investing in one quality t-shirt as opposed to three that won’t last. The Forever New dress is perfect for my cousin’s wedding in December and I’ll definitely be taking Chelsea’s advice about incorporating blazers into my wardrobe as it’s such an easy way to take something from casual to cool.”
Husband-of-the-year Joel added: “Cathryn looks fantastic and I can tell she had a great day by the smile on her face, which makes me so glad I nominated her.”
